'Being an artist is to be conscious in the world so environment issues will be at the heart of everything we do. Art is enquiry and reflection of past culture, response and challenge to ‘now culture’ and ultimately will be part of future culture. Artists have been attempting to ‘do’ something and ‘shout out’ about the environmental crisis since the mid twentieth century, significantly after the publication in 1962 of Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring. Fifty plus years on, seeing graphs of data showing species loss, temperature rises, extreme weather events, plastic use, water poverty etc. still rising beyond comprehension, it is hard to believe art can make any difference.
But maybe making a difference is not the point: rather being witness to a moment.'
